As Netflix’s vice president originals for Spain, Portugal, and Nordics, Diego Ávalos has led a storied career providing non-English language entertainment for the streaming platform’s worldwide viewers. He spearheaded the platform’s first original Spanish-language Netflix production, Club of Crows, a Mexican comedy-drama series. Diego Ávalos has also led Netflix’s efforts to expand Spanish-language content over the years, helping to bring series like Money Heist to global audiences with mass appeal. He remains dedicated to promoting diversity, innovation, and quality in all projects taken on by his team while overseeing the consolidation and operation of dedicated production facilities in Tres Cantos, Madrid.
Ávalos supports the cultivation of Spanish and Latin American talent, both behind and in front of the camera, through the development of content including Through My Window, The Girl of the Snow, and I Am Georgina. He has also supervised the development of the first Netflix series set in Portugal, Glória.
Before joining Netflix, where he has contributed to content development for more than nine years, Diego Ávalos led Yahoo’s business and content development for the U.S. Hispanic and Latin American markets. He continues to take an active role in the community through board seats with Building Baja’s Future, a California-based nonprofit organization dedicated to helping disadvantaged youth achieve their educational goals, and Fundación FAD Juventud, an organization dedicated to combating drug addiction in Madrid. He also promotes the advancement of the audiovisual industry with associations including CIMA (the Association of Women Filmmakers and Audiovisual Media) and DAMA (the entity for Copyright in Audiovisual.
